BUBBA, THE REDNECK

The city boys thought Bubba was square b/c he never would take a drink.  Those city boys didn’t know that “drink” took Bubba’s Daddy away from home forever when Bubba was only 6 years old and Bubba’s Mom asked Bubba to never touch the “stuff”.  Even Bubba knows you’re supposed to obey Mom.

The city boys didn’t know why Bubba wouldn’t play sports and join all the clubs in high school.  Those city boys didn’t know that Bubba worked in the tobacco fields in season and cut wood in the winter to help keep food on the table during those welfare years. Yes, welfare, when the food was in cans that you picked up at the local government distribution center.

The city boys didn’t know why Bubba would spend so many weekends just sitting at home.  Was Bubba just a sissy boy? Those city boys didn’t know that Mom worked in those tobacco fields during the day, babysat and worked in those tobacco cellars at night with only an oil lamp to keep Bubba in school and that the less money Bubba spent and the more Bubba worked the less his Mom had to. If you don’t believe me, just go ahead and call Bubba a “sissy”, yeah, go ahead!!

The city boys didn’t know why Bubba didn’t chase all the “babes” with them.  Those city boys didn’t know that older “babes” stole Dad away, took Dad into bankruptcy, took Mom’s property/assets and broke Mom’s heart for life. Bubba don’t need no “babes”, he just needs God’s woman.

The high school city boys didn’t know why Bubba never invited anyone home to spend the night at Bubba’s house.  Those city boys didn’t know that Bubba had no indoor plumbing until he was 18 years old. Bubba was doing them a favor by keeping them from the ol’ johnny house out back. . . the one inside the cow pasture with one crazy bull.

The high school city boys didn’t understand why Bubba never had vacation stories to tell in the fall at school.  Those city boys didn’t know that Bubba never knew what a vacation was until he turned 28 years old.  Bubba did skip school every September to “pull” tobacco, which was like vacation.  No problem, Bubba was an A- student on grades.

The high school city boys didn’t know why Bubba’s car was never very clean and didn’t run too well.  Those city boys never knew the car was borrowed; Bubba’s family never owned a car until Bubba was in his 20’s.

The college city boys didn’t know why Bubba wore the same three pairs of pants and five shirts every week to class.  Those city boys didn’t know that they were all the clothes Bubba had.  How many clothes do you need anyway?!!

The college city boys didn’t understand why Bubba never made fun of the foreigners or Africans or handicapped he befriended in college.  Those city boys never knew that Bubba felt the same hurt that his African tobacco farm boys felt down on the farm when they walked those fields together. Bubba had been there/done that.

The college city boys didn’t understand why Bubba kept sending monthly support to that Christian Children’s Fund to support Rosemary, an orphan kid in Brazil, when she could never do anything for him.  Those city boys never knew that that was a promise Bubba had made to God because of God’s goodness to help him when his Dad left town for good. And, Rosemary didn’t have Dad’s BMW to ride around.

The college city boys never knew why Bubba applied to UVA Law School because Bubba just didn’t have the polish, class or money it would take.  Those city boys didn’t know how far Bubba’s God had brought him and the promise that God had made to Bubba.

The college city boys never understand and laughed when they heard Bubba had been granted an interview at UVA Law School.  What was old Redneck going to tell the Law School?!! Those city boys didn’t know that Bubba’s God would do all the talking!

The college city boys never understood why Bubba turned down other law schools that had accepted him when he hadn’t heard from UVA.  Those city boys didn’t know that Bubba “just knew” what God had told him about UVA.

The college city boys didn’t understand why Bubba kept believing when they, one by one, begin receiving rejections from UVA Law School.  Those city boys didn’t know that God kept whispering in Bubba’s ear that all would be ok. . . just keep trusting.

On the day that Bubba finished his final UVA Law School exam, his law school friends didn’t know why he requested an interview with the Dean.  Those law school boys didn’t understand how Bubba’s heart was exploding with joy over God’s answered prayer and how Bubba just had to thank UVA. And, he got the interview, did a whole lot of thanking and cried a little too.  God is good.

On the night that everyone was celebrating those law school friends didn’t know why Bubba didn’t come to the party.  Those law school boys didn’t know that Bubba was back at his apartment, crying and thanking God for giving him a degree from UVA Law School.

On his first day on the job, his law school boys didn’t understand why Bubba began tithing to his church on his first paycheck.  Bubba was broke and had his school loans to pay. Those law school boys didn’t know that Bubba had gone 7 years to UVA (College and Law School) for the price of about 1 to 1 ½ years cost.  Bubba knew you could never out-give God. Yep, it’s so true.

Bubba’s friends never could talk to Bubba about traveling around the world b/c ol’ Bubba was a redneck, stay-at-home boy.  Those same friends couldn’t believe it when Bubba went to Kenya (yes, Africa!) in August 2010 and spoke in 4 schools, the prison twice, 4 churches and saw over 600 people trust Christ as Saviour.   Bubba also took a medical team that treated over 1600 patients for free. And, Bubba is going back to take some Bibles  (1611 KJV) to his Kenya family/friends.

Old redneck Bubba has learned a few things in life.  God is good. You can never out-give God.  God is faithful.  God keeps His Word. We just need to keep encouraging/reminding each other to trust Him.  Oh, yeah!!  Can I get a witness?!!! Psalm 37: 4, 5

Btw, Bubba is still a Redneck!  And, God is still good!!
